“I can’t believe my eyes!”: Holograms in the National Library.
From February 23rd, the library should be not only quiet, but also... dark. No, no, this is not a hide and seek game or a new quest. An exhibition of artistic holograms “Enlightenment. Cognition. Progress”.
Oddly enough, but only in complete darkness an artist named “light” create his virtuoso paintings. The imposition of light waves, photosensitive material plus a laser ray — and now, in the “black square”, quite real volumetric objects appear. And you want to open the “boxes” in which they are enclosed, take them in hand and explore. This is how the 3D world is born!
The exhibition surprised not only with the number of holograms presented (about 150), but also with thematic variety. Among the exhibits are attributes of the Great Patriotic War, Christian relics (“Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk”, “Zhirovichi Icon of the Mother of God”, “Gifts of the Magi”, “Kupyatitskaya Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos”), museum values (series “Treasures of the Belarusian Land”), technics, plants, art compositions, nature, architecture, animals, spaceships, combat aircraft and much, much more.
It was the first time in a holographic "recording“when treasures from the funds of the National Library of Belarus appeared — valuable early printed editions “Bible” by Francysk Skaryna (Prague, 1517-1519), “Gospel” by Peter Mstislavets (Vilna, 1575), “New Testament and Psalter” (Kutein, 1652). One of these masterpieces of book art can be seen in the original!
All presented holograms “made in Belarus” are created by the leading Belarusian enterprises “Light Magic” and “HOLOGRAPHY INDUSTRY”, the founder of which is a world-famous scientist Leonid Tanin. Today these enterprises are leaders in the production of holograms in the post-Soviet space, while Belarus is one of the few countries where art holograms are created.
Literally “holography” translates as “complete image recording”. Indeed, this is not a visual deception. This is physics! The guides told about the history of holography, reveal the secrets of the difference between holograms and other optical illusions.
Holography is a young, modern and promising science. Today it finds application in medicine, space exploration, show business, interior design, advertising and other fields. As for artist holograms — undoubtedly this is the art of the future!
