Looking Glass Ltd. has begun selling their new 8K holographic display, which delivers astounding realism in 3D.
The display has 33.2 million pixels, as well as 45 elements of the light field, which creates a 3D effect. The target markets for this display, developers consider medical imaging, mapping, automation systems, architecture and engineering. However, game developers are also interested in this technology. Kim Libreri, Technical Director of Epic Games, noted that the release of volumetric displays that do not require glasses is a breakthrough: “It presents an amazing perspective for teams working in the field of immersion computer graphics, visualization and content creation. Looking Glass’s holographic display provides an exciting level of realism, and we are looking forward to innovations that develop support for content created in Unreal Engine”.
As for the price, it is reported only on request. This means that the price will be available only to those enterprises that can afford to create a remote immersive system for their employees and have the money to afford technology on the verge of works of art.
